Questions

Do I need the extension?

No. The website works on its own: paste a YouTube link or open a text. The extension adds the same subtitles inside YouTube, Disney+ and HBO Max.

What if a video has no German subtitles?

Lenton can generate German subtitles from the audio. With the extension, you can also import your own German or English .srt or .vtt file.

Do I need Anki?

No. Saved words stay in Vocabulary, and you can export them as CSV at any time. If you use Anki, Lenton connects through the AnkiConnect add-on while Anki is open.

Where does my data go?

Everything you learn here stays with your account. Your learning data is isolated to it, and you can export a copy from Settings.

Does it handle separable verbs?

Yes. Lenton recognizes verbs like zumachen and marks both halves, so “Mach … zu” is looked up and saved as one word.

Which level do I need?

Any. You choose the level you're working towards, and Lenton marks the words from that level's list, so a beginner and an advanced learner see different words marked in the same line.

Can I change the keyboard shortcuts?

Yes. Every shortcut can be reassigned in Settings. Press ? while watching or reading to see them all.
